I was born in Glasgow where I studied at the Glasgow School of Art graduating with a BA Hons in Graphic Design. In recent years I have pursued a love of drawing which consequently developed into painting in acrylic and oil.
Living in Gullane, East Lothian, I enjoy sketching the coastline, studying the texture and shapes of the rocks and the changing weather effects on the Firth of Forth. Working first in charcoal drawing of the landscape and preparing canvases with mark making and paint to create a rich texture, I then proceed to build up in thin layers of acrylic with brushes and working on top using thicker paint on a palette knife with added spattering and stippling for more interest.
My recent body of work is called 'Littoral' which is the area between high and low water mark. I really enjoyed studying the marks and textures of the rocks when the tide was out and seeing the effect in the wetlands of the estuary where trenches form leaving a richly patterned landscape. I hope this collection of drawings and paintings convey my observations and response to the coastal area near my home.
